Off to New Brunswick
This morning we said goodbye to Halifax. It is a beautiful city and we could have used a lot more time to explore and enjoy. We headed south towards Peggy’s Cove. Along the way we stopped at the Acadian Maple shop, which offered all kinds of Maple Syrup products.
We arrived early at Peggy’s Cove, before it was very busy. We lucked into having sunny skies and only a light breeze. We all headed straight
to the lighthouse to take some group pictures, then we split up to explore the quaint little town on our own. Peggy’s Cove is a tiny, active fishing village that gets inundated by tourists all summer long. We were lucky that we were the only tour bus on site and there were very few people compared to regular years. It is a great place to take plenty of photos, as you will see below!! We had lots of time to explore before getting back on the bus and heading down the road.
At the beginning of the tour out TD asked us to write down the name of a song that we would like to hear on the trip. He then made up a playlist and today began playing some of the songs. We have to try to guess who requested the song and then we say why we requested it. It is a fun idea!
Our next destination was Lunenburg, but we made a photo stop at Mahone Bay along the way. It is a pretty little town that has three churches almost side by side along the water, a must stop for photographers!
Lunenburg is another quaint and colourful fishing village, much larger than Peggy’s Cove. It is built on the hillside, making it very picturesque (and a good workout). The weather was amazing and it is Sunday, so that made it quite difficult to find a place to have lunch. Most of the restaurants had 45 minute wait times, so many of us ended up grabbing pizza or other faster lunches so that we had some time to explore, shop and take pictures. Lunenburg has an amazing fisheries museum. A few people checked it out but there wasn’t enough time to do it justice.
Mid afternoon we were back on the bus and heading for Moncton, New Brunswick. It was a four hour drive so we had the chance to kick back and relax. We watched the movie “Anne of Green Gables”. It will make our visit to the “Anne of Green Gables Museum “ more interesting, especially for the Americans that weren’t familiar with the story.
When we arrived into Moncton, we stopped at Sobeys and grabbed some food to have dinner in our rooms. It was a nice change from having to head to a restaurant. Tomorrow we are off to the Bay of Fundy!
