Our final day!
We had a free day to spend in St. John’s but our Tour Director organized an excursion for us! We left at 10:30 and drove out of St. John’s, for an hour, to the picturesque town of Brigus. It was foggy along the way but it burned off and the sun came out just as we arrived. We had two hours to grab lunch and explore the town on our own. It was a photographer‘s dream come true!! It was another quaint seaside town with charming harbours and gorgeous colourful houses. We found the tunnel that was bored through the rock in 1860 to allow easier access to the water below. Some of us had the opportunity to meet Albert, an 82 year old born and raised in Brigus. He was a sweet man that was anxious to chat with anyone that would listen. We had another delicious meal at a charming local restaurant, always great food and service.
Then we drove about 10 miles up the road to another little seaside town called Cupids. We visited the Cupid’s Legacy Centre where we learned about the first English settlement in Canada. We also had some time to take more photos.
On the way back we made a quick stop in Hollyrood for pictures, a stretch and a Timmies coffee!!
We returned to the hotel at 5:00 and regrouped in the lounge at 5:30 for a farewell drink. We then split into smaller groups to dine out and spend our last evening in St. John’s. George Street was very quiet compared to Saturday night!! Now it is time to pack our bags and get readyfor the trip home tomorrow!
